afternoon waking

i woke today to the sound of a breath so simple and unconfused
next to me was the woman i love and soon we had fused
do you see i love you more than life itself can see
it is as large as the open ocean and bigger than any sea
sound it drifts to nowhere but my ears and spirits ears
we alone know the truth of love and we alone have tears
as the sound of life it drifts to my ears and she sleeps
this one dear and near and here is the only one for keeps
